Best Adults-Only Hotels in Mexico
Going on a honeymoon? Taking a vacation without the kids? Or heading to Mexico with a group of friends? Whatever your reason, if you’re looking to little kids in the pools and restaurants, then an adults-only hotel is the way to go. We visited no-minors-permitted properties throughout Mexico to see which ones were the very best.
Excellence Playa Mujeres
Playa Mujeres Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico
This adult-only luxury resort offers a nice all-inclusive experience with tons of variety -- multiple dining options, several beautiful pools, a gorgeous spa, and dozens of wonderful activities. The rooms here are large and contemporary, with large modern bathrooms, Jacuzzis, and high-end amenities such as big flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and iPod docks. Some have a large rooftop terrace with a private plunge pool with ocean views. However, note that the beach is less attractive than others farther south, and that there are no attractions nearby.
Le Blanc Spa Resort Cancun
Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico
The luxurious, 260-room Le Blanc Spa is the best (and priciest) adult-only all-inclusive in town. It stands out for its gorgeous white-sand beach in the heart of the Hotel Zone, decadent spa (guests get free access to the hydrotherapy area), stunning pools (two with swim-up bars), and especially its pampering service, from the butlers who will unpack your clothes to the pool attendants who will provide cool towels for your eyes. It has a hip, gorgeous aesthetic throughout the entire pristine white property, and the modern, bright rooms have two-person whirlpool tubs; most have either ocean or lagoon views. The chic restaurants have great food and don't require reservations (aside from the stunningly designed Lumiere). The fitness offering also impresses, and there are multiple daily classes, including aqua spinning and Pilates.
Beloved Playa Mujeres
Playa Mujeres Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico
This 109-room sleek, sexy boutique hotel is a luxurious, adult-only all-inclusive located in the Playa Mujeres region just north of Cancun. It’s on a beautiful long white-sand beach -- which can have some seaweed from time to time -- and has three chic outdoor pools with food and drink service. Rooms are huge (starting at 960 square feet), all-white, and have big whirlpool tubs, as well as private balconies -- many with ocean views and some with plunge pools. The 35,000-square-foot spa is gorgeous, with an impressive hydrotherapy circuit, and the fitness center is extensive. Food at the four restaurants is excellent and a la carte, and reservations are not required; 24-hour room service is also available. Among the area's top all-inclusive resorts, the Beloved stands out as the only true boutique.
The Beach Tulum
Tulum, Quintana Roo, Mexico
The 20-room, adult-only Beach Tulum is a popular upper-middle-range option in the heart of the Hotel Zone, and for good reason. Its 20 rooms are right on the beach (you can step out onto the sand from the ground-floor units), the beachfront restaurant, Ziggy's, has great food (and a generous free breakfast with fresh juice and smoothies), and the small size allows for lots of personalized attention from the staff. Charming rooms combine rustic and modern elements, and all have ample outdoor space and ocean views. Property features are impressive for a boutique, and include a pretty, meandering pool, outdoor whirlpool, and daily yoga classes. Free Wi-Fi and parking add to the value, although year-round mosquitos can be an issue.
Be Tulum Hotel
Tulum, Quintana Roo, Mexico
A super-chic, adult-only luxury property, Be Tulum has an excellent location in the middle of the Hotel Zone. A design-conscious, BoHo-chic look is present throughout the grounds and in the 20 guest rooms, outfitted with plunge pools or hot tubs, indoor and outdoor showers, hammocks, and modern comforts like air-conditioning and 24-hour electricity (not a given in this area). There’s also an attractive beach club, a small infinity pool, a large restaurant with raw bar and grill, two bars with mezcal selection, and a fashionable spa compound across the street. But the design here can feel divorced from its Mexican surroundings.
El Dorado Casitas Royale by Karisma
Riviera Maya, Quintana Roo, Mexico
El Dorado Casitas Royale, the intimate, more upscale section of El Dorado Royale is an adult-only, all-inclusive property about midway between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. While amenities are the same on both sides of the resort, El Dorado Casitas Royale is quieter and feels more secluded than the rest of the property. Rooms are large and luxurious, with wood-beamed ceilings, huge bathrooms with outdoor showers, and two-person hot tubs. Some rooms have private swim-up terraces, or balconies with infinity-edge plunge pools. Most guests choose to spend their days at one of the hotel’s several pools (some have a swim-up bar) because the beach is small and rocky, and not so suitable for swimming. The on-site restaurants serve an array of cuisine types, but the food is mediocre at best.
Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun
Playa Maroma, Quintana Roo, Mexico
Located on the Riviera Maya, south of Cancun, the 412-room Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun is a romantic, adult-only all-inclusive resort, set on a private white-sand beach lined with sunbeds, cabanas, and palapas. In addition to the buffet, a wide range of high-quality dining options are available, including Japanese teppanyaki, French cuisine, a wine cellar with over 200 different vintages, and, for an extra charge, romantic dinners for two on the beach. A stunning destination-style spa offers couples' treatments in private outdoor cabanas on the beach. Rooms are large and tasteful, with four-poster canopy beds, separate sitting areas, and private balconies; ground floor rooms are swim-up suites. The hotel is especially popular for honeymoons and destination weddings, though numerous additional fees can make a stay here pricey.
Secrets The Vine Cancun
Cancun Hotel Zone, Quintana Roo, Mexico
The 497-room Secrets The Vine Cancun Resort & Spa is an all-inclusive, luxury hotel with an adult-only policy. Many of the rooms have stunning sea views from the balconies, and there are luxurious touches like Italian porcelain flooring and beautiful teak wood furniture. Guests can take advantage of a huge range of activities from yoga to wine tasting as well as six a la carte restaurants serving a global list of cuisines including Italian, Mexican, Argentinian, and Asian. Another way to indulge is the on-site spa, which has 14 treatment rooms, a sauna, and a steam room, plus there are four beautiful outdoor pools to choose from. The beachfront location is ideal for tourists wanting to relax, but it's also a short drive to several attractions.
Hyatt Zilara Cancun
Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico
This 307-room hacienda-style resort on a pristine stretch of beach in the Hotel Zone is one of the area's top all-inclusive luxury options for adults only. The stylish, colonial-style rooms all have balconies with phenomenal ocean views, which are also enjoyed from the whirlpool tubs. Food is excellent at the six restaurants, especially for an all-inclusive resort; the Mexican food at Maria Marie and Asian food at Asiana are particular favorites, and no reservations are required (except for the teppanyaki show and Chef's Plate). The sprawling, beachfront infinity pool is stunning, with a giant swim-up bar at its center. The spa and huge gym (complete with outdoor lap pool!) also impress, and there are plenty of fun activities, from the weekly foam party to tequila tastings to the live evening shows.
Hotel Mousai
Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico
The most exclusive property in the Garza Blanca Preserve, Hotel Mousai is a luxury hotel with 74 contemporary suites plus panoramic views of the coastline below. Everything is sleek and sharp, if a bit reminiscent of W Hotels style-wise (think: oversized chess pieces and lots of gilded Buddhas). All-inclusive rates are popular, and may be worth it given the fees that can otherwise add up, and the hotel doesn't allow anyone under 18. A restaurant plus two bars are on-site, but the entire Garza Blanca development is at guests’ disposal, including the beach (a 10-minute walk downhill). The sexy rooftop infinity pool, dazzling views from the Imagine Spa, and fully-equipped gym all make this a wonderful package.
Hilton Playa del Carmen, an All-Inclusive Adult Only Resort
Playa del Carmen - Riviera Maya, Quintana Roo, Mexico
This adults-only, luxury all-inclusive property with 507 rooms appeals to both 20- and 30-something couples. A particular draw of this resort is its proximity to the nightlife of downtown Playa del Carmen, especially bustling Fifth Avenue, which the party-oriented appreciate. But the gorgeous stretch of beach and the sophisticated rooms with two-person jetted tubs means romantic-minded couples will be pleased here as well. The range of features is, unsurprisingly, extensive, including seven restaurants and five bars, an Olympic-sized pool, a wedding center, and a spa.
El Dorado Maroma, by Karisma
Playa Maroma, Quintana Roo, Mexico
El Dorado Maroma, is an adults-only all-inclusive about 40 minutes south of Cancun. The resort is smaller and quieter than many nearby all-inclusives, but it’s chock-full of amenities. There are six on-site restaurants, numerous bars, multiple pools, a spa with beachfront massage services, and a modern fitness center. There is a wide range of room options at El Dorado Maroma, including suites with swim-up terraces. However, the beach -- which is little more than a marina with sand -- is disappointing. Food and drinks throughout the hotel are fairly mediocre.
Secrets Silversands Riviera Cancun
Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo, Mexico
his luxurious, 433-room all-inclusive resort is an adult-only escape with a fairly remote location a half-hour drive south of Cancun's bustling Hotel Zone. There's a classy, jet set vibe, and spring break shenanigans are prohibited, as are children under 18. Extensive features include a white-sand beach(that's smaller than those at competing properties), eight pools, nine restaurants, and abundant bars -- plus nightly entertainment to keep things lively. There is a full-service spa as well as a nicely outfitted fitness center, not to mention regular yoga and water aerobics classes. Rooms are spacious, spotless, and modern, all with amazing whirlpool tubs and balconies or patios. Really fantastic free Wi-Fi is offered throughout (reception can even be found on the beach).
Royal Hideaway Playacar
Playa del Carmen - Riviera Maya, Quintana Roo, Mexico
The Royal Hideaway is a member of exclusive hospitality consortium Leading Hotels of the World, and as such is one of the most luxurious properties in the area. It features upscale rooms with high-end amenities, a full-service spa with great treatments, several pools, and the best food around. The beautiful grounds, overall sophisticated vibe, adult-only policy, and beautiful beachfront location a short drive from shopping on Playa’s Fifth Avenue make it one of the most attractive options for couples in Playacar.
Paradisus Playa del Carmen La Perla
Playa del Carmen - Riviera Maya, Quintana Roo, Mexico
Paradisus Playa Del Carmen La Perla is one of the best adults-only, all-inclusive luxury resorts in Maya Riviera. This chic property is located directly on the Caribbean, but the patch of white sand is narrow and it's a bit far from downtown Playa Del Carmen. No kids allowed means the gorgeous swimming pools remain calm and serene; there's a swim-up bar and waiter service, but guests tend to be seeking peace and quiet rather than a rowdy party scene. Even the most affordable rooms have marble floors and free minibars stocked daily. An upgrade means access to a semi-private swim-up pool and/or butler service. A huge variety of all-inclusive restaurants and bars get high marks for quality and service. The spa is romantic, with a water ritual, sexy day beds, and an expansive treatment menu.
Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya
Playa del Secreto, Quintana Roo, Mexico
The 540-room Valentin Imperial Maya is an adult-only, all-inclusive luxury resort set in an exclusive area of the Riviera Maya known as Playa Secreto. The draws here are the long white-sand beach, massive main pool with two swim-up bars, lazy river (select rooms have swim-out access), quality food, lively entertainment, beautiful grounds, and full-service spa and fitness center. Rooms have traditional, earth-tone decor, and all have outdoor space -- some have ocean views, though they can be obstructed by vegetation on lower floors. There are 11 bars where top-shelf liquor is included, and seven a la carte restaurants where reservations are not required (though Privilege Package guests can make reservations to avoid a wait).
The Palm at Playa
Playa del Carmen - Riviera Maya, Quintana Roo, Mexico
Introduced in 2013 and debuting Playa del Carmen’s largest rooftop terrace, The Palm at Playa is a modish, 69-room boutique just blocks from the beach. Rooms are large, featuring hip, mid-century decor; most have huge two-person walk-in showers, lounge areas, and large wet bars. Designed for the cool kids, the expansive rooftop terrace has an infinity pool, large hot tub, and bar with panoramic views. There are also a small spa, gym, and garden grounds to help guests relax after partying all night at the club across the street or rooftop disco.
TRS Yucatan Hotel
Akumal, Quintana Roo, Mexico
The 130-room Royal Suites Yucatan is the smallest, quietest, and most luxurious resort in the five-resort Grand Palladium Riviera Maya complex, and the only one for adults only. Located along the beautiful Akumal coastline between Tulum and Cancun, this upscale resort gives guests an all-inclusive experience with more food an drink options than you can count on both hands, all-day and night activities, soft sand and coral rock beaches, wildlife, a huge hydrotherapy-based spa with gym (access for a fee), and relaxing nature-filled grounds. While Royal Suites guests get full access to the features at the sister resorts, the reverse is not true. The rooms have much more contemporary decor than what is found at the sister properties, and the lagoon-facing Mayan Suites here are among the nicest accommodations in the entire complex. Just note that the property is sprawling and it's a trek to the beach, though shuttle service is available.
Luxury Bahia Principe Sian Ka’an
Akumal, Quintana Roo, Mexico
The 420-suite Luxury Bahia Principe Sian Kaan is the most exclusive offering within the Mayan Riviera's Bahia Principe resort complex. This adult-only all-inclusive has three restaurants, a snack bar, and four bars, plus a private off-site beach area with beach bar and water sports. An ideal resort for couples, all rooms have top-shelf minibars, 24-hour room service, and luxe amenities -- and are located in semi-private spots within lush garden grounds. Some have private decks with hot tubs.
El Dorado Royale by Karisma
Playa Paraiso, Quintana Roo, Mexico
El Dorado Royale, a sprawling 450-acre oceanfront property, is an adults-only all-inclusive resort with a dizzying array of amenities. With 13 gorgeous pools, seven restaurant options, a handful of bars, an incredible spa, and activities like yoga, snorkeling, and kayaking, guests will never be bored, or hungry, during their stay. Rooms have nice features like fully stocked mini-bars and large balconies, but don’t feel as luxurious as they could be for the price and four-and-a-half pearl rating. With unsightly sand bags and a rocky ocean floor, the beach is not the prettiest, nor is it the best for swimming. Like many other all-inclusives, the food is mediocre, and quality varies between restaurants.
