Best Family Spring Break Hotels in Cancun

Moon Palace Golf and Spa Resort is a gigantic all-inclusive luxury resort along Cancun's Mayan Riviera. With 2,433 rooms across three resort sections -- each with their own decor, design, amenities, and appeal -- it's no shock that this is the largest Palace property in the world. Moon Palace just might have a kids' club to rival all kids' clubs. While we've seen a lot of dedicated spots made for kids in mind, this one is at the top of our list. An unassuming and rather plain building on the outside, the Sunrise kids club really comes to life as a kids' paradise once you step inside. What makes this space unique is the design. There are a number of separately decorated and designed rooms with different purposes, giving kids a buffet of imaginative options to keep them entertained. Some of our favorite spaces include the mini racetrack complete with kid-sized small plastic cars to take for a spin; the glamorous and glizty, all-pink beauty salon/fashion runway room; the arcade; the art room; and life-sized doll house room -- just to name a few. There's also a snack bar, outdoor playground, and mini-theater. 

The Westin Lagunamar Ocean Resort is located along the turquoise waters of the Caribbean. With a lovely beach, attractive facade, and well-groomed property, this resort offers quality in the heart of Cancun's Hotel Zone. Rooms are either studios or villas, and both are complete with living areas, balconies, kitchens, washer/dryers, great for those traveling with kids. There are on-site restaurants serving international cuisine and the Tierra Market provides ingredients for guests to cook in fully equipped kitchens. Plus, there's a nice staffed kids' club with daily activities, and an all-inclusive dining program for children ages 12 and younger.

The upscale, all-inclusive Panama Jack Resorts in the Hotel Zone is one of the best values in Cancun. The competitive prices draw a fair number of partiers, and there are lots of poolside activities such as tequila volleyball. But the resort draws plenty of families as well, thanks to its two pools (neither very large or with a swim-up bar), kiddy splash park with a pirate ship and slides, and evening entertainment. Multiple restaurants and bars include buffet and Italian options, and food receives mostly positive reviews. Updated in 2017, the 458 rooms are stylish and beachy, all with hammock-equipped terraces (some with stunning views) and showers. 

Compared to neighboring properties, the 179-room Fiesta Americana is a small hotel that offers a great value for families. It's less party-oriented than most of the Hotel Zone properties, and has a wide range of activities and amenities designed for travelers with kids: a kiddy pool, a playground, a kids’ club; plus large, clean, multi-roomsuites with at least a kitchenette with a mini-fridge and a microwave. The large pool, the nice beach, the spa, the spacious fitness center with sauna, and the central location are perks as well.

The all-inclusive Sea Adventure Resort & Waterpark -- formerly the Bluebay Club -- caters to families. Located near the tip of Puerto Juarez, it is 10 minutes away from the downtown Cancun bustle on a (rather small) beach. However, the main draw here isn’t the ocean -- it's the many kid-friendly features, including the kids’ club with arts and crafts, waterslides, and the waterpark playground. While adults are far from Cancun’s main party strip, they can still enjoy unlimited drinks, lounge on the swinging sun beds, and attend nightly shows, such as the Michael Jackson tribute. Most meals are buffet-style, but there are also two specialty restaurants.

While you may not think "kids" when you think Ritz, this Ritz-Carlton is ready for family stays. In addition to a kids' club full of daily activities and adventures, the hotel has created a special menu just for kids' tastes (including healthy options). They've even got safety on the brain with an under-five kid-proofing kit for rooms that includes outlet covers, toiletries just for babies, tub covers, and first-aid kits. But if you have a super young one joining your vacation, there are also rooms available designed just for babies that have changing tables, cribs, and well-thought out details in technology to make sure a sleeping baby isn't disturbed.

Boasting itself as a resort for families, Royal Solaris doesn't drop the ball when it comes to the kids' club. After following a set of tiny colorful footprints, kids are led up a small set of stairs toward an animal-themed water park, full of slides, fountains, and adventure courses. If they ever leave the water, there is also an indoor area with activities for most kids up to 12. Adults have their own entertainment in the form of nightly shows, water sports at the marina, spa and beauty treatments, and shopping.

The 306-room GR Solaris Cancun is located directly on the beach in Cancun's Hotel Zone. This resort is ideal for families and social couples looking for a budget-friendly all-inclusive vacation reminiscent of a landlocked cruise ship. Jam-packed with a ton of features and activities including a lively main pool with swim-up bar, a kids' club, live entertainment, and many venues for grabbing a bite or a beverage, the vibe is busy, fun and social (without being obnoxious). However, those expecting a luxury property may be disappointed with the hotel's basic appearance, and may fare better at sister property GR Caribe.

The Omni chain is known for its great kids’ program, and the Omni Cancun is no different. Upon check-in, kids receive a backpack with games, books and toys, and get milk with cookies on the first night. The hotel is located along an expansive beach along the Nichupte Lagoon, which has calm, clean waters. There’s also a kids’ pool and daily activities for the little ones. Overall, it's a comfortable family-friendly option, and grounds include tropical gardens surrounding three pools, and the mega-Jacuzzi with seating for up to 35 guests, tennis/basketball courts, a fitness center, and spa.

arriott's 4-pearl, 450-room CasaMagna Cancun Resort is located directly on the Hotel Zone's white powder-sand beaches. Rooms have marble bathrooms, classic decor touches, and comfortable beds, but can feature slightly dated technology. A kids' club and children's pool make it family-friendly (as does the hotel mascot, Pancho); while the swim-up infinity pool bar, extra-large hot tub, spa area, and raucous sports bar are ideal for adults

The first thing potential guests should know about this mid-range, all-inclusive-optional Holiday Inn is that it's not in the heart of the Hotel Zone. It's actually located at the very northern end, and requires a bus or taxi ride to get to local shops and restaurants (at least there are bus stops right next to the hotel). The 214 rooms here are minimalistic but clean and spacious, and have private balconies overlooking either the pool area or the ocean. The suites have well-equipped kitchenettes, which can come in handy for families who don't want to pay the all-inclusive rate. Standard resort amenities exist here -- two pools and a fitness center, though no full spa (just massages available) -- but the beach is full of seaweed, making swimming a less-than-pleasant experience. Still, this hotel is a good value, and families may especially enjoy it -- there are good kids' activities, and kids eat free in the three restaurants.
