Bottom Line
A clean and modern Hampton Inn, this mid-range hotel offers 71 updated rooms with comfortable beds, clean bathrooms, and generic chain decor. Suites include a kitchenette and mini-fridge. On-site amenities are as expected, and there are a small outdoor pool, fitness center, free parking, and renovated lobby and breakfast nook -- and a hot breakfast is free. The hotel is situated near Route 183 and within walking distance of the Olive Garden, but it's a 25-minute drive to Austin and 15 minutes to shopping in Round Rock. The Hyatt Place Austin Downtown has a better location next to the Austin Convention Center, and it has an indoor pool.

Scene
Renovated and sophisticated lobby
From the exterior, this Hampton Inn looks like any other in the country: two-story white stone facade and red property sign. But inside, the lobby and breakfast area have more character that includes hanging lights with cutout shades, industrial-chic textiles on the high barstool chairs, and engineered wood floors. A tufted leather bench and a glass-wall waterfall in the front lobby add additional aesthetic touches and places to linger. Guests here run the gamut from business travelers to families and couples.
Location
In a suburb of Austin, surrounded by strip malls and other chain hotels
Driving is virtually essential in the area surrounding the Hampton Inn & Suites, though it's possible to walk to a series of nearby chain restaurants including Chili’s and the Olive Garden. The hotel sits at the end of a driveway within a suburban shopping complex, with other hotels and commerce nearby, though separated by ample amounts of parking and bland stretches of sidewalk. The on-ramp to Route 183 is about five minutes away in a car, and downtown Austin is another 20 minutes behind the wheel. There are a handful of attractions within 15 minutes by car, including a vineyard, shopping in Round Rock, and antique train excursions. Free uncovered parking at the hotel is a nice perk.
Rooms
Simple chain decor and features for getting work done
Following the renovated decor of the rest of this hotel, the rooms here are characterized by plain but elegant, understated decor consisting of mix-and-match sand-colored textiles, teak-colored bed frames, the occasional piece of framed abstract wall art, and a potted plant. Beds are made up in white linens and set with the brand's signature wood lap desk. All rooms have a work desk, ample outlets, an iron and ironing board, a flat-screen TV, air-conditioning, and a coffeemaker. Bathrooms have granite vanities with a good amount of counter space, though are otherwise standard apart from their spaciousness, and include a shower/tub combo framed by a white fabric curtain. Neutrogena toiletries and a hairdryer are provided.
Suites have an ergonomic desk chair in addition to a cushioned sitting chair and a couch. Some have a kitchenette area with an empty mini-fridge, microwave, and sink. Wi-Fi is free in all of the rooms and cleanliness isn't an issue. Rooms and suites overlook either the swimming pool or the parking lot.
Features
Free breakfast, small outdoor swimming pool, and free Wi-Fi
Features at the Hampton Inn & Suites are free and standard. A small pool behind the building is a bit grim, as it's not landscaped and faces a parking lot, but it's suitable for a dip. Home-like conveniences on-site include coin laundry and a small shop that sells a variety of snacks, beverages, and basic toiletries. The business center has a computer station and a printer, and Wi-Fi is free throughout the property. There's a well-maintained fitness center with some weighted exercise balls, a few machines, and some hand weights. The hotel serves a daily and hot free breakfast in the breakfast area adjacent to the lobby. This property doesn't have a bar or restaurant.
