Best Adults-Only Resorts in the Maldives

Popular among European couples, this adult-only resort is small, romantic, and a great value for the Maldives. Highlights include a beachfront infinity pool, nice on-site reef, excellent food, and plenty of free perks. Komandoo’s biggest drawback is its location (a 45-minute flight from Male Airport), which occasionally translates into long layovers; however, it’s significantly less expensive than competing resorts near Male.

Open since 2013, this well-managed resort close to the airport has 140 rooms, either along the shore or overwater on stilts (reached via a lengthy jetty). Thailand-based Centara has two properties in the Maldives, both known for offering luxury accommodations at competitive prices, and this particular one is aimed at young couples (no guests under the age of 12 are allowed). It’s not the prettiest island or best house reef for snorkeling, but its service is exceptional, a rarity at this price point. The buffet serves a wide mix of European and Asian cuisines, while three a la carte restaurants (Thai, Italian, and Middle Eastern) and three bars keep the mainland fun and lively; both half-board and all-inclusive rates are on offer.

Though Kuredi isn't entirely adult-only, a dedicated section of the property is. Opened in the late '80s, Kuredu is one of the oldest and largest resorts in the Maldives. To make the island more manageable, its 383 guest rooms and facilities have been divided into three sub-resorts -- Sangu, Koamas, and ‘O’ Resort -- each with its own restaurant, bar, and pool. ‘O’ Resort is exclusively reserved for families with children over 12, and Sangu Resort is adult-only. All guests are welcome at Koamas, which is closest to the main lobby and has the bulk of the property features.

At Meeru, there are 286 rooms split between the family-friendly and adult-only sections of the island; each section has its own pool, buffet restaurant, and spa. The upscale Meeru is not only the third oldest resort in the Maldives, it is also the third largest, with 286 rooms and a loyal following of repeat guests (many Germans). The large but peaceful infinity pool for adults overlooks the Honeymoon Suites in the distance, and the spa on the adults side is overwater.
